“Legacy of a Teapot” is an amazing story told in such a clear voice the emotions relived in this memoir/novel are felt as though the reader is sitting in the room. As with all novel written in the first person, I want to know what part of the author has been exposed for all to see. The story shines a beacon of light on a most important life-lesson … practice forgiveness and let go of painful memories. An epilogue softens the actions of a few characters but I still wonder … and isn’t that an essence of a really good novel. Well done, Barbara Benom.

Memories of the Past

I just finished, Legacy of a Teapot and just loved it. It
made me laugh,it made me sad, it made me mad and It brought back a lot of
memories of growing up in Richmond Hill. All the places she wrote about, I
remember and was at most of them. It hit a lot of emotions with me. I remember all the Christmases
past when I was that little kid trying to find the presents that were hidden in the basement but
still believing in Santa. The dreams that a young boy has about growing up and the mark he'll make as
he goes thru life. The day you realize that your not as smart as you thought you were. The
story she wrote could be about any of us and that's what made it a great read for me.

I sat back and enjoyed every bit of this book. The author caught the dialects perfectly so I could hear her father and mother's voices as they were speaking in my ears. The use of verbs, adverbs and adjectives were colorful zingers to exactly describe the action, and I found myself constantly chuckling with each line.

RULE #2: The card has to have a "me-to-you" sentiment.�You'll be much more successful at writing cards if you get in the habit of using the word "you" more often than the word "I". Sure, you'll see some cards where the joke is about what happened when "I" went looking for a present or what "I" think about getting older. There are always exceptions but the vast majority of successful cards have a strong me-to-you message because greeting cards are about relationships. Here are some examples:
COVER: Happy Birthday! I'd like to borrow your secret for looking so young.
INSIDE: I mean, since you're not using it.

COVER: Know what I find attractive in a man?
INSIDE: Just look in the mirror.

COVER: Happy Birthday to my Older Brother! You may not know this, but you're responsible for my very existence!
INSIDE: Mom and Dad knew they could do better.

INSIGHT #3: Keep your eyes and ears open.�In the course of a typical day, you're bombarded by hundreds of ideas for greeting cards. You may hear a phrase from a nearby conversation that you can build a Friendship card around. You may hear a joke from a coworker that gives you an idea for a great Birthday card. You may see a happy couple strolling hand-in-hand down the street and get inspired to write an Anniversary card. When you train yourself to be more aware of what's going on around you, your creativity will blossom.

After you do this for a while, your antenna will always be up. For example, I was dropping my daughter, Erin, off at junior high one morning. I needed to go in the school too, but she said, "No! Let me out, then wait five minutes before you come in!" So as I was sitting in the car waiting, I was thinking, "There's got to be something here." And sure enough, I came up with an idea for a button:�My parents are more embarrassing than your parents!�Of course, Erin and all her friends wanted one.

Another time I was telling Erin how cute she was. "In fact," I said, "you're Mega-cute." And I thought to myself,�Hmmm, that would make a good button." And, sure enough, I sold it. Of course, I gave Erin half the money I got for those two buttons because she was my inspiration. She was quite pleased.

Since the book was a bit shy on the important stuff (like current publishers to work with), I can only give this four stars. The information is good, from a person who's been there and done that/doing it. Just again, wish it had more current resources.

Witold Wysota

Witold Wysota is a software architect and developer living in Poland. He started his adventure with Qt in 2004 when he joined QtForum.org and started answering questions about programming with Qt. Shortly afterwards, he became part of the moderator group of the forum. In 2006, together with the moderator team, he established QtCentre.org, which quickly became the largest community-driven support site devoted to Qt. For a number of years, he conducted commercial, academic, and public trainings and workshops and has been giving lectures on Qt, Qt Quick, and related technologies. He is a certified Qt developer and was a member of Qt Education Advisory Board with Nokia, where he helped prepare materials in order to use Qt in educational activities. Witold was also a technical reviewer for Foundations of Qt Development, Johan Thelin, Apress Publishing, a book about Qt 4, and an author of a couple of articles on programming with Qt. In real life, he is a passionate adept of Seven Star Praying Mantis, a traditional style of Chinese martial arts.

Lorenz Haas

Lorenz Haas is a passionate programmer who started his Qt career with Qt 3. Thrilled by Qt's great community, especially the one at QtCentre.org, he immersed himself in this framework, became one of the first certified Qt developers and specialists, and turned his love for Qt into his profession. Lorenz is now working at a medium-sized IT company based in Erlangen, Germany, as a lead software architect. good practical beginner's guide

Very good book, filled with practical examples. The book covers wide range of topics e.g. scripting, networking and has even Qt Creator shortcuts between the lines ;) I enjoyed reading the book but advance users will probably skim through some chapters and for complete beginners I'd recommend "Foundations of Qt Development" book.

About the Author
Bill Peet was the author of 34 books published by Houghton Mifflin. One of these, BILL PEET: AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY, was named a 1989 Caldecott Honor Book. All of Bill Peet’s books published by Houghton Mifflin Company, including his first book for children published in 1959, HUBERT'S HAIR-RAISING ADVENTURE, remain actively in print today.

In both his career as an author and illustrator of children’s books and in his work as sketch artist and continuity illustrator at Walt Disney, Bill Peet created a menagerie of memorable characters. As he himself noted, "I write about animals because I love to draw them. Most of my animal characters have human personalities, and some are much like the people I know."

At Walt Disney, where Bill Peet worked for 27 years, he was a key participant in the production of classic films such as Fantasia, Sleeping Beauty, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and 101 Dalmatians for which he was not only an artist, but the screenwriter as well.

Bill Peet’s signature style enabled him to create fast-paced stories of fantastical adventure delivered with warmth and laugh-out-loud hilarity. His unfailing humor did not, however, prevent him from addressing such poignant issues as kindness toward others and respect for the environment. Through the exploits of his characters, Peet offered his audience a chance to see themselves and their world through new eyes.

"At some point," Bill Peet once said, "it occurred to me that drawing was something I couldn’t possibly give up, and somehow it must be turned into a profession." He went on to not only fulfill his dream but to introduce generations of young readers to his delightful vision of humor, friendship and compassion.

A cute dragon story

Drufus gets lost from his terrifying dragon family and has to survive on his own. One morning he rescues a bug from a spider's web and he considers that he, like the spider, kills to eat. He decides to eat grass instead and grows into the largest dragon ever. A local king wants a dragon head to put on his wall to impress everyone, and he sends out his knights to find one. Fortunately there are no bones outside his cave since he eats grass, so the knights don't know he's there and they go right past. He is discovered by a boy who refuses to report the dragon to the king for a reward because the dragon hadn't harmed the boy's lamb.

Later Drufus gets injured in a storm and lands on that boy's property. The boy still refuses to tell the king and get the reward. He hides the dragon and helps him heal. The family is poor because the land is too full of rocks and they can't get them out. Drufus over hears this and decides to help them. He clears out the rocks and helps plow the land. The family comes to love the dragon and they work together to bring prosperity to the family.

One day the king finds out about the dragon and goes to get him. The family comes up with a solution that is surprising and funny.

Droofus doesn't really lose his head.

Sorry for that plot-spoiler. As you can see from the cover, Droofus is a cute dragon. He cuddles with lambs and doesn't... exactly do stuff that dragons are commonly associated with (like breathe fire, act menacing, you know...) Several knights don't quite get that, and attempt to put an abrupt end to Droofus, but they don't quite look hard enough for him, and ultimately a detente ensues once everyone realizes that Droofus isn't the menace they believed dragons to be. It teaches a child that snap judgments aren't always the smartest, and may result in someone being hurt. Bill Peet's books are classics with thoughtful messages and excellent illustrations.
